About

As the college minstry of Mountain Brook Community Church, UCF is committed to the four ministry areas of Worship, Discipleship, Community, and Mission.  We want to see college students become passionately devoted to Christ... but we want this passionate devotion to endure throughout their lives.  We want to see students grasped by such a compelling vision of God that they live entirely and joyfully for Him and for His Gospel.

Wednesday Night Worship (8:30, UCF House)

Our worship services are simple, but, we believe, profound.  They are simple in that there is nothing flashy or showy.  Profound in that we believe 75 minutes or so in the presence of God among His people and before His Word can have incalculable consequences for our lives.  When we gather each week, Sarah leads us in worship, and Joel leads us through biblical texts in preaching and teaching.

At Table (7:00, final Wednesday of the month)

Because we want not just a passionate devotion to Christ among our students, but a passionate devotion that endures, we take time once a month for dialogue over a meal to ensure that the seeds of the words sown through preaching will get nestled more deeply in the soil of our hearts (see the Parable of the Sower in Mark 4).  At Tables occur at the end of each month at 7:00 on Wednesdays in th UCF House and feature homecooked meals as well as lively discussion, communion, worship and prayer.

Our History

UCF was started in 1999 by Joel and Lauren Brooks. After almost 10 years of faithful service to the students of Birmingham, the Brooks left to plant Redeemer Community Church in nearby Crestwood. In the summer of 2008, Andy and Miranda Byers came to lead UCF through its new chapter. The Byers left UCF in 2011 for Andy's pursuit of a PhD at the University of Durham in England. This summer, Joel and Mandy Busby were appointed to lead our students at UCF. Joel has served as a UCF Discipleship Intern since 2009, and we are excited about this new chapter in our ministry under his leadership.

We are a simple ministry, desiring to remain faithful to our tenets of word, worship, and prayer as we grow through discipleship, community, and mission. In keeping with our focus on the essentials, our worship service on Wednesday nights is basic without frills or flash. As the college ministry of Mountain Brook Community Church, we meet on Sunday mornings during the community group hour to walk through a book of the Bible, studying and questioning together.
